Wild Mushrooms & Red Deer Rut

September is a quiet time in the forests and valleys of our 'secret corner' of Poland, but there's plenty to do as we hunt the forest for the abundant wild mushrooms and learn from our Polish hosts how they prepare, cook and preserve them.

While we're wandering around the forest, we often hear the red deer stags roaring to each other and to the females, often within 100m of where we sit. This is the time of the rut and tensions run high among the stags.
