Cambridge Swift Maxi Nesting Block 90864 (VP)

Cambridge Swift Maxi Nesting Block 90864 (VP)

SKU: 90864

Description

This is a 'fit & forget' nest box ideal for including in new buildings or renovations in the hard to access sites that Swifts prefer, such as under the eaves. The nest box offers the occupants protection from predators and insulation from extremes of temperature.

The Cambridge Swift Nesting System is discrete and doesn’t compromise the building’s design.

The entrance brick 90878 Red or 90877 Buff are designed to be used with the nesting cavity 90864. The construction of these is easy as they are standard UK brick and block sizes.

Concrete construction means this will be a low cost, long term solution to creating an ideal home for a Swift.

Siting

A great way to help our declining Swifts, this nest box is simply incorporated into the side of a building at a height of 5 metres or more, but not facing south. Constructed from a mix of concrete and wood fibres, WoodStone® nest boxes offer protection from predators and a more consistent internal temperature.

• The Cambridge Swift Maxi block is easy to fit as it sits on the inner walls and is a standard UK block width of 440mm.
• It has 4 nesting pans so it doesn’t matter which way up it is fitted
• The entrance brick is standard Uk brick so involves no cutting to fit it
• As this block is designed to go in the gable end high up it will normally be against a cold space, so insulation is not necessary
• We suggest using a DPC or waterproof sealant around the maxi block to avoid any possible water ingress
• Preferably install the built in block into the gable end on the north or east side of the building 3 courses down from the top. This gives an ideal height for the block and is an area where there will be little disturbance from humans. Keep the flight path of the nesting box clear so do not allow trees or shrubs to grow in front of the wall. Swifts likes to breed in colonies, therefore it is advisable to build in several building blocks together. The distance between the mounting the blocks must then be at least 40 centimetres. No nesting material needs to be added. The recommendation is that you should place a minimum of 1 block per new dwelling so on a 30-house development you would have 30 blocks on the site.

Maintenance

Swifts use little nest material and do not make dirty marks on the façade.
