Woodstone Build-in Bat Tube 90158
Description
This built-in brick is ideal for bats. Which species uses the built-in brick depends on the area where the built-in brick is used and which species already occur there. When using one brick per location (always in combination with the built-in brick 90157), the built-in brick can be used as a shelter for one or a few bats or as a breeding roost. The built-in brick is suitable as a maternity roost, but several bricks must be connected to each other to create a larger space. With bats, the more space they have available, the better!
Species that use the insert are listed below.
Placement
The bat cavity brick must be used in combination with the bat installation brick (90157) for new construction or renovation. The cavity brick can be connected to the built-in brick by removing the connecting pieces. This creates a larger interior space for the bats. The insulation in the cavity can continue behind the brick, so there is no cold bridge. The built-in bricks can be used connected. To do this, you can remove the wooden part on the left, right or above. Before installing the cavity brick, first remove the relevant wooden access hatches on both the cavity brick and the 90157 built-in brick. This way the bats can crawl from one brick to the other. This actually creates a large bat box in the cavity.
The built-in brick can be used in any direction with a preference for the southern side. Place the built-in brick as high as possible in the facade, but at least 2.5 meters. Keep the approach route to the entrance clear, so do not allow trees or shrubs to grow in front of the wall and no sun protection or the like above the built-in brick. You can find droppings where bats live. It is therefore better not to place the built-in bricks above a door, window or balcony. The location of the built-in brick should not be brightly lit, so do not place lighting above the built-in brick.
Maintenance
No maintenance is possible for this built-in brick as it is incorporated in the cavity wall.

About Vivara Pro
We are experts in nature-inclusive construction — but what does it mean?
Nature-inclusive building integrates biodiversity into construction. It improves the living environment for people and wildlife; enabling a future where people and nature can live together in harmony.
In essence, this is done by adding measures such as nestboxes, green roofs or built-in bricks into urban environments, allowing wildlife to thrive. This is where we excel.
The advantages of nature-inclusive construction
According to various studies from prestigious institutes such as Stanford University and Wageningen University & Research, balancing nature with urban development allows for a myriad of positive effects to take place, such as:
-
Increased biodiversity in the area
-
Improved air quality in the area
-
Reduced levels of stress, anxiety, and depression for residents
-
A direct connection with nature
-
Improved overall wellbeing
-
Reduced urban heat island (UHI) effects
-
And much more
The advantages of woodstone
Most of our products are made from woodstone: a proprietary material that mixes (FSC®-)wood fibres with concrete, colloquealy known as cement-bonded wood fibre or wood concrete.
Woodstone has natural insulating properties and the material is also breathable. This can lead to better breeding outcomes for the species inhabiting the box or brick. It also has many other advantages, such as:
-
Durable and sustainable
-
Woodstone is much lighter than cement or regular concrete
-
Woodstone can absorb water and has natural insulating properties
-
Being much stronger than wood, it also does not rot
-
Highly fire-resistant
What is FSC®-certified wood?
Vivara Pro exclusively works with FSC®-certified wood. FSC® stands for Forest Stewardship Council, an international, non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible forest management worldwide.
FSC®-certified wood is felled from forests that are managed with respect for people, wildlife, and the environment. The certification guarantees that the wood is felled sustainably, with strict standards that protect biodiversity, ensure fair working conditions, and maintain the long-term health of forest ecosystems.
Every step of the supply chain is checked and verified. This process is called chain of custody certification, ensuring that FSC®-labelled products truly originate from responsibly managed sources.
In summary, by using FSC®-certified wood we ensure that ecosystems can thrive and regrow. It also guarantees fair wages and working conditions. These are values that have, and always will have our unequivocal support.
