These units can all be used hand-held to detect and record bats, though the new Ecordea DarkFlight combined bat recorder and thermal camera is best used on a tripod.
The Anabat Walkabout, Pettersson M500, M500-384, U256 & U384 and Wildlife Acoustics Echo Meter Touch 2 all have real-time sonogram display (Pettersson M500/M500-384/U256/U384 & Wildlife Acoustics Echo Meter Touch 2 when connected to suitable device) and the Anabat Scout, Elekon Batlogger M & M2 don't.
The Echo Meter Touch 2 connects to compatible iOS and Android devices.
If the real-time sonogram display is important to you, I recommend either the Anabat Walkabout, Wildlife Acoustics Echo Meter Touch 2 PRO or Pettersson U384. If you don't want the display it would be the Elekon Batlogger M (which can be used passively as well), Batlogger M2 or the Anabat Scout.

Ecordea DarkFlight
Designed specifically for bat surveys and including everything you need for recording and analysing radiometric survey data and ultrasonic recordings. Available for hire or purchase.
DarkFlight records both ultrasonic and thermal (either MP4 or radiometric depending on model) data.
Most thermal kit just captures data, and leaves the evidence work for the morning. DarkFlight builds the evidence as the survey runs, so you leave site with it done. The ecologist still reviews and interprets, DarkFlight removes the mechanical drag around finding, aligning, clipping and packaging it.

"My bat detector microphone failed during a dawn survey and knew that I had a group of dusk surveys starting in two days time. I was not in a good place as I did not have a spare, but my equipment was less than a year old.
