Thermal Imaging
A range of thermal imaging scopes and cameras to enable you to affordably view wildlife at night or during the day.
Thermal imagers don't need an external source of light like infra-red systems do, as they rely on the heat of the animal to allow you to watch them. This means that thermal imagers let you watch wildlife hundreds of meters away, depending on the magnification, field of view and resolution of the device.
You should get the maximum resolution you can afford and choose the magnification and field of view to suit your needs. For bat emergence surveys, you'll need a wide field of view if you're wanting to watch a whole side of a building, but possibly a narrower field of view if watching a tree roost. For scanning whole landscapes for larger wildlife, such as wolves (as we do on our Poland trips), you'll need a greater magnification and a narrower field of view. The greater the magnification, the narrower the field of view and vice versa.
For surveying buildings for bats, the most popular unit is now the Pixfra Arc A613. For surveying landscapes, you'll get the best results from the Pulsar Telos XL50 and the Pulsar Merger Duo NXP50. Note that none of these cameras produce proper radiometric data, just 'videos in the dark' (though you can use them in daylight as well!)
We have the Pixfra Arc A613, Guide TrackIR Pro 19 and the Pulsar Helion XP28/XP50 available for hire (note that the Helion is the older model, so not as good as the Helion 2 Pro, but it is available with the now-discontinued XP28 wide-angle lens, which is suitable for bat surveys of buildings.
The devices below are in price order, starting with the cheapest (after the Thermal Vision Ecology Kit, which is a game-changer for bat surveys, enabling more bats to be seen and much quicker analysis of radiometric data), with Pulsar accessories at the bottom. Note that the Pulsar Flip-up Phone Mount will also fit the Guide TrackIR and TrackIR Pro units (and probably others with a tripod mount).

Thermal Vision Ecology Kit
With 100% Satisfaction Guarantee and Lifetime Backup & Support
Designed specifically for bat surveys and including everything you need for recording and analysing radiometric survey data.
By saving hours on the analysis by using the included software, this kit is extremely cost-effective and frees ecologists to do more surveys without having to sit through hours of video each time.
This kit is a game-changer for those who'd rather not sit in front of a screen wading through hours of video from each camera. One camera, with the right lens, can cover large areas, or even complete buildings.
With tracking capability, you can view flight-paths of bats as they leave, or enter, their roosts.
Invest in this amazing package and save both time and money in the longer term.
